Initial Teacher Training

School Direct PGCE and QTS - Primary

Train to be a teacher at Inspire Professional Development and benefit from a tailored programme of training and support from outstanding, experienced professionals. Our package will provide you with theory, subject knowledge and invaluable classroom practice. Our vision is to produce outstanding teachers, who are passionate in shaping the minds of young children, helping them to thrive in all aspects of education. To find out more, please click here.

Inspire works with a wide range of schools across Swindon and the local surrounding areas, including our thirteen Trust schools. Our schools are vibrant, friendly places where the children are at the heart of everything we do. We believe in teaching skills, sharing knowledge and building special memories that children will take with them through the rest of their lives. Our team of experienced and dedicated practitioners will be able to guide, support and help develop your professional practice. Inspire will provide you with weekly training courses, and you will benefit from opportunities to meet with other trainee teachers, creating a valuable learning community to share ideas and practice.

Inspire Professional Development works in partnership with Ambition Institute and Liverpool Hope University, and we have a comprehensive Initial Teacher Training programme. Our ITT programme awards places on the School Direct PGCE and QTS route into teaching, and has been designed to support trainees from varying starting points; whether you are new into education or if you have worked in the industry for many years. Throughout your training, you will embark on a pathway suitable to your individual professional needs, gaining invaluable experience in the classroom in a variety of forms; including observing outstanding teachers, team teaching and working with small groups of children, to then gradually taking responsibility for the learning of a whole class. In joining our programme, you will commence on a twelve month placement, training in at least two of our schools, across two different key stages. You will experience school life from the first day of the academic year in September, getting to know your colleagues, school systems and pupils from day one.

Ourselves and our dynamic range of partner schools share the common belief of investing and supporting our next generation of teachers.

We are proud to share that our 2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 cohorts of trainee teachers all achieved Qualified Teacher Status, providing us with a 100% success rate. The same cohorts of trainee teachers were also successful in gaining employment.

What will I learn?

This hands-on programme is backed by the latest evidence-based teaching research. You'll learn theory of what makes a good teacher and put this learning into practice with your peers and mentor. At every step, you will be supported by experts from your programme. Each week, you'll cover a module from one of these five programme strands:

  1. Behaviour: How you can create calm, safe and purposeful places of learning where all children and young people can achieve

  2. Instruction: How you can support all children and young people to learn in the classroom - from thinking about how you present information, to helping them learn independently in lessons

  3. Curriculum: How you can design lessons and curricula that help children and young people learn new and more complex ideas over time

  4. Assessment: How you can better understand the impact your teaching is having and how to respond when your pupils struggle

  5. Professionalism: Looking at what it is to be a teacher and how to prepare for your professional career

By the end of your teacher training course you will:

  • Know and understand the National Curriculum

  • Be able to plan and prepare lessons, and set clear learning objectives

  • Have strong classroom management skills, such as knowing how to promote good behaviour

  • Know how to teach pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

  • Be able to assess pupils effectively

Assessment

You will be assessed through a mixture of written assignments and classroom observation.

In your day-to-day training there will be opportunities to show what you can do and where we can help you further. We'll use a range of assessment tools to help you showcase your growing capabilities, inside and outside the classroom.
